Match Fights! September 12th

Lets get ready to rumble!!!!!   We have an insane number of Mt Vic Dojo people who have thrown their name in the hat for a Fight Gym Match Fight in September!  As usual we have men and women from complete novice right through to NZ’s ‘08 and ‘09 champion of champions!  With fighters like Jamie, Thelvin, Ray and Josh, just to name a few, there’s guaranteed to be some cracking Kyokushin on display.  Now I have to find them all matches!

As usual we’re looking to match fighters by size, experience and rule preference and we don’t want to ask the MVD crew to fight each other (regardless how interesting some of the matches would be!) so please put the word out and encourage ANYONE interested in 6 minutes mat time to register online.  I’ve put a link on the home page and HERE

We’d really like all our black belt candidates to step up this year which means we’re after colts from 13yrs.

As always the night is about experience for fighters and officials.  Kiwis don’t get the opportunities that exist in Japan or Europe to fight full contact every few weeks and at MVD we’re firm believers tournament fighting is what it’s all about.  It’s what we train for.  It’s what we do.  Chris is fond of comparing Kyokushin fighters to football players who play the game almost as often as they train!  He just doesn’t comprehend training and not fighting and rates what a fighter learns in one match fight as equivalent  to six months training (probably more if you don’t win).  So what matters to us is that all participants enjoy maximum mat time with an opponent we’d put 50:50 odds on.  Rules and the use of gloves/shinpads are negotiable so there’s no excuses not to have a crack!   We welcome non-Kyokushin fighters too!

If you are in we recommend Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday fitness classes & Friday & Sunday fight classes.  Friday night is usually just sparring time and I’m not sure it’s coincidental our National Champs are on the leader board for rounds of sparring this year.  I think Jamie just cracked 400 hundred rounds since 1 Jan!  How many can you do between now & September?
