Kids 10yrs & Over
Wednesday 4:00-5:30, Thursday 4:45-5:45, Monday 4:30-5:30
What Do We Do?
These classes are designed for younger students who have graded to blue belt (takes approx 1 year) and for kids over 10 years. We cover more advanced syllabus and technical material. As well as continuing to develop the kid’s physicality, this class demands better levels of concentration and focus and increased strength and timing. The kids learn complex kata and start to work combinations of techniques. The basic skills they learn as beginners start to become intuitive.

The students start to develop an awareness of themselves and others. Senior students are involved in teaching and develop leadership and coaching skills. They start to develop empathy, responsibility (to partner/opponent/student), impulse control, stress tolerance, independence, assertiveness, self awareness and esteem. All these are facets of EQ and are highly transferable to life outside the dojo. Note the Wednesday class is one and a half hours, giving us time to explore more advanced technical work and get some sparring in.

The Thursday class is our ‘Gandam’ class geared towards college age kids. I give the colts more practical self defence and advanced syllabus material. A few of the adults rate the colt’s Thursday class as the best on the timetable! College age kids are also welcome to migrate into the adult sessions, when they feel comfortable, at no extra cost.

Do we need a uniform?
It is part of the dojo culture to wear a traditional uniform. The uniform is available to purchase from reception when you join. The cost is $75-100 depending on size. The uniform comes with a white belt.
Do the kids do gradings?
We grade the kids mid year and at the end of the year. Note that as the kids advance through the ranks the rate at which they grade slows down. If the kids haven’t worked very hard and, especially if they are only training once a week, they may not be invited to grade every time. This is normal for Kyokushin Karate. Once they get to yellow belt and above they need to train more than once a week to progress. Grades indicate a level of proficiency and attitude maintained by MVD on behalf of the global organisation. Senior grades MUST be earned!
The cost for the gradings at this level is between $45 & $95. The cost of a new belt is additional and these can be purchased at reception.
What else do we need?
We recommend all the kids have their own shin pads and gloves. Both items can be purchased at reception.
