Kids at Mt Vic Dojo
The junior classes at Mt Vic Dojo are insanely popular! Kids between 4 & 16 years have their own modified syllabus incorporating plenty of fun and good age-specific developmental activity. The kids can train once per week or, if they are keen, we are now pleased to offer at least two complementary classes each week for each age group at outstanding value! The kids training more than once per week are enjoying outstanding progress so it’s worth contemplating if their after school calendar is not already full to overflowing!
We split the kids into the following developmental levels:
The Kid’s Instructors
Sensei Chris Gower (Sensei simply means teacher) currently directs all the kid’s classes. Chris is a senior member of the NZKOK and is heavily involved in the continuing development of the NZ syllabus so the students at MVD are always at the leading edge of technical development! Chris is also a father of two and has a special interest in early childhood development. His challenge is to integrate the best of traditional Japanese training, modern techniques as they evolve internationally and Kiwi kid’s strengths, weaknesses & lifestyles. His classes are physical, challenging, age appropriate and always fun!
In 2009 Sempai Jamie will also be taking kids classes. Jamie and other high grades in Kyokushin are given the title Sempai which means ’senior’. He has been doing karate since he was 8 years old so he’s got some great insights into the kid’s classes and at 21 it definitely helps the kids think he’s pretty cool! You can check out a bit more about both Chris and Jamie on the Instructors page.
An important part of the pathway to a Kyokushin black belt involves coaching and teaching so Chris enlists the help of the kids involved in the Dojo’s Leadership Program to help with teaching too. CLICK HERE to learn about our amazing Young Leaders.
